HOW DOES HIRING A DOULA BENEFIT ME DURING LABOR?
Having a doula can increase the chance of spontaneous vaginal birth, reduce the use of forceps and a vacuum as well as other medical interventions and medications, and increase the likelihood of being at peace with the birth you have. Additionally, there is a 50% decrease in cesarean, 60% decrease in epidural requests, 40% decrease in oxytocin use and a 25% decrease in labor length. Birth is such a sacred and intimate time and shouldn't be interrupted with *unnecessary* negativity or medical intervention. Doula's will help you achieve your birthy goals. Your partner will also benefit from the guidance and comfort a doula gives.
WHY HIRE A BIRTHÂ DOULA?
Regardless of birthing experience, hiring a doula allows you to create a labor space unique to your own preferences and comfort. A doula will build a trusting relationship with you and advocate for the birth plan you desire to follow, on your terms. They will be the maid of honor but for your birth!
WHEN SHOULD I HIRE A BIRTH DOULA?
There is no wrong time- doulas are always beneficial! However there are endless reasons to hire a doula sooner rather than later. Great trust is built, there is more time for detailed education, and you can have more confidence and peace during your pregnancy. Every doula has a different amount of prenatal meetings they offer, but when booked sooner, doulas will have more time to meet with you!
I personally offer 3 prenatals at a minimum, and have my phone open for 24/7 text, call, and email support for clients.
DO YOU PERFORM ANY PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS?
No! I am not a medical care provider.
WHERE DO I OFFER MY SERVICES?
I offer my Birth and Postpartum Doula services to SLO County and Northern Santa Barbara County.
My night nannying services are restricted to those located no more than 30 minutes from my home.
WHY HIRE A POSTPARTUM DOULA?
A postpartum doula is a key person to have in your support network — easing some stress and empowering you in other ways. postpartum doulas can educate you on topics like infant feeding, nutrition, postpartum recovery, and much more. Beyond that, a postpartum doula can also identify early signs of PMADs and give you resources so you get the help you need as soon as possible. Support can be as simple as caring for your baby so you're able to take a nap, bathe, go for a walk, etc.
WHAT DO WE COVER IN PRENATAL APPOINTMENTS?
Prenatal appointments with your doula are tailored to your needs and structured to educate, and give attention to any questions, fears, emotions, and obstacles you have. This is YOUR birth and YOUR moment, doulas are there to help resource and educate YOU personally so you can have all your birthy dreams come true. We'll chat about your birth preferences, comfort measures, positions/movement for labor and birth, and postpartum/breastfeeding preparation!
